
<html><head><style type='text/css'>p { margin: 0; }</style></head><body><div style='font-family: Arial; font-size: 14pt; color: #000000'><span></span>Give Back to Birds - Field Trip and Workday - April 30, 2011 <br><br>Nachusa Grassland <br>8772 S. Lowden Rd. <br>Franklin Grove, Illinois <br><br><br>9:00 am – 10:30 Bird Walk <br>10:30 am - Snack <br>10:45am - 12:30 Workday <br>Brown Bag Lunch to picnic with the other volunteers. <br><br>The Bird Conservation Network is sponsoring its sixth Give Back to Birds – <br>Field Trip/Workday at Nachusa Grassland, an Illinois Important Bird Area, <br>located in Franklin Grove <br><br>This is about a two-hour drive west from Chicago. This is one of the state's <br>largest prairies, with a long-standing and active restoration group. <br><br>On the bird walk, we will learn about the project from a volunteer steward, and <br>enjoy the beautiful remnant prairie, and the grassland and woodland birds. <br><br>After the morning bird walk, we will enjoy a complimentary snack before we begin <br>to cut invasive brush in the prairie. <br><br>This Saturday trip/workday will take place rain or shine. People of all ages can <br>find a way to help. Dress in layers, with sturdy shoes. Bring work gloves if you <br>have them, but extra are available. <br><br>Bring a sack lunch if you would like to picnic after the workday. Goodies for <br>dessert will be provided! <br><br>BCN would like to know how many to plan for. Please RSVP to Joan Bruchman at <br>pjbruchman@yahoo.com or 847-687-3108. Also let Joan know if you would like to <br>join a carpool. <br><br>Directions to Nachusa Grasslands: <br>Take I-88 West (East-West Tollway). Exit at Route 251 North (Rochelle) to Route <br>38 West (you need to follow a few signs.) Travel through Ashton and into <br>Franklin Grove (approx. 16.5 miles), go two blocks past Casey's gas station of <br>Franklin Grove (not Ashton) and turn right (north) at Daysville Road/1700E <br>(sign: Franklin Creek State Park) Travel 1.5 miles north to Naylor Road/19 <br>Turn right (north) and go 1.5 miles to preserve headquarters on left. <br><br>Give Back to Birds is a series of "work and birding" trips sponsored by the Bird <br>Conservation Network. The purposes: Fellowship and camaraderie among our bird <br>conservation and birding communities. Helping out some sites that have conservation <br>needs. And seeing some great birds and beautiful places! <br><br><br><br>_______________________________________________<br>bcnnet mailing list<br>bcnnet@ece.iit.edu<br>http://www.ece.iit.edu/mailman/listinfo/bcnnet<br></div></body></html>
