Natural History's Center for Biodiversity and Conservation (CBC) will focus its
eleventh annual symposium on conserving bird diversity in the areas most
heavily impacted by human activities. While there have been many opportunities
for scientists and managers to discuss the conservation of rare birds in the
wild, this conference will examine new approaches for managing bird diversity
in urban, suburban, agricultural, and industrial areas; and explore
possibilities for conservation in the face of an increasingly developed and
industrialized world. Conservation decision-making in these landscapes will
necessarily involve ecological and evolutionary considerations as well as an
open discussion of ethical and aesthetic implications. Once we begin to
understand potential or desired patterns of diversity, we can proceed to
integrate the available science with new and adaptive approaches to land
management in these areas.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
