Dave Willard of the Field Museum will be the featured speaker, with the program focusing on the research the museum has done over 3 decades of bird strikes at McCormick Place, and what they have learned (also including information from the Chicago Bird Collision Monitors data the past few years). As usual, we would like to have a wide range of nominations, and also may not be familiar with everyone that would be worthy of an award.??? We ask all members of?BCN?to consider nominating someone. The categories: Service to Chicago Area Birders Environmental Reporting (print, TV or radio, and now even perhaps on-line?) To nominate someone, either see the writeup on our CAS website:?? www.chicagoaudubon.org , or go to http://www.chicagoaudubon.org/2009EnviroAwardsNomiminations.pdf ?for the nomination form. If you live in Cook County please call your commissioner (see link below) and if possible attend the rally showing our support for keeping our treasured Forest Preserve intact as their original mission intended. Thanks very much. Donnie Dann, Past President Bird Conservation Network donniebird@yahoo.com new logo Tell Commissioners to "Vote No to Hinsdale" Don't let the FPDCC Board give away forest preserve land. Our elected stewards of the Forest Preserve District have once again succumbed to pressures to give away the Cook County public's forest preserve land. At a Real Estate Committee meeting on Sept. 2, Commissioners voted - against their staff's recommendation - to negotiate leasing to the Village of Hinsdale 26 acres of forested land to be cleared for a park. That isn't final approval, and we need to stop it. On Oct. 7, the commissioners will vote either to accept or discard the actions of the Real Estate Committee. You can help us stop this land grab. 1. Call your commissioner and ask them to "Vote No to Hinsdale". (Commissioner Contact List) 2. Join us for a rally at 9 a.m. Wednesday, October 7, outside of the County Board Room, 118 N. Clark St., 5th floor. Please RSVP by calling the Friends' office at 312-356-9990 with your name and the number of people you are able to bring with you. If you need more information, please feel free to contact me at 312-356-9990 or benjamin@fotfp.org Thank you for helping us ensure that Cook County's forest preserves are protected for generations to come, Benjamin Cox Executive Director Friends of the Forest Preserves Forward email Safe Unsubscribe This email was sent to donniebird@me.com by forestpreservealert@fotfp.org.
